Ore Mountains
Cornhole e.V.

Tom O'Grady

Who is Tom? It is no exaggeration to say that without this likeable New Yorker, there would still be no Ore Mountains Cornhole e.V. He in particular, but also his wonderful wife Nannette, planted the virus, which was eventually transmitted across the pond to Saxony, with no chance of a cure.

How did Tom discover Cornhole? It's best we let him tell this story:

Back in 2010, I was at a relative’s college graduation party and one of them had brought strange little boards with a hole in it.  It was called CORNHOLE.  The boards were decorated with Fordham University and Notre Dame images and colors. It looked like someone had put some effort into making them look nice.  They said this game was at every bar and every college campus in the middle of the US.  The college graduates and other relatives were holding a beer in one hand and tossing a small sack in the other hand.  I was not interested.

By 2014 there was another graduation and more of these boards, and more adults were participating.  I decided to give it a try.  I realized it was technically simple but deviously challenging. Well, I was hooked and made my own boards and covered them with my favorite beers from Boston and Bavaria, Sam Adams and Augustiner.

It was shortly after, that I met a man from Olbernhau in 2017 and introduced him to this fun little game.  A beer in one hand and tossing a sack in the other hand.  It seemed he was hooked.  I had no idea that this game would make it back to Germany.  I can’t wait to visit Germany once again and play a few games with him.
